When is the best time to move?
Anytime… if you’ve decided to move with Prolific Relocation the time of moving doesn’t matter. We’re ready anytime and our team can handle your move with the utmost care.
When should I call a moving company?
The earlier, the better. Although the actual truck assignment may not be made until a few days before your move, it’s a good idea to give your moving company four to six weeks notice. The more lead time you can give, the more likely the company will be able to meet your preferred delivery schedule.
If you decide to move with Prolific Relocation, a move coordinator will be assigned to you. This person will help you select services (if needed) and can answer any questions you may have throughout the entire process.
How long does it take to move?
This depends on many factors, such as the time of year, weather, size of your shipment, time required to load and unload, and the direction and distance your shipment is traveling.
With the help of Prolific Relocation computer-assisted dispatching system, pickup and delivery dates are scheduled according to the origins and destinations of individual shipments on the trucks.
My move date changed. What should I do?
Contact your move coordinator as soon as you can if your move dates have changed. He/she can process any changes to your plan and discuss updates.
How do I select which moving companies will provide me with a free moving estimate?
Your first step is determining if you need a full service moving company. It’s a good idea to research local, national, and long distance moving companies— ask people you know for recommendations.
What is a binding estimate?
A binding estimate is a contract that in advance specifies the precise cost of moving based on the services requested or deemed necessary at the time of the estimate. If additional moving services are requested or required at either origin or destination, then the total cost will increase.
Should I tip my movers?
As with other service industries, you may wish to thank your movers for a job well done by offering a gratuity.
While the movers do not expect a set tip amount, we suggest a tip based on your satisfaction with your crew and the overall move.
If you feel that your movers went above and beyond in their efforts, you may want to increase the amount accordingly.
Do you provide moving discounts? (for example student discounts)
Prolific Relocation may provide additional discounts or have a promotion going on. Just ask!
Is there a minimum amount of hours for the moving service?
There is always a minimum amount of hours for the moving service, though this is usually for local moves. The minimum amount is three hours, even if your move takes less time than three hours. Yet if your move takes, for example, three hours and 15 minutes, the amount is prorated and you pay for every 15-minute increment. For long distance moves the minimum hours rule does not apply — you pay per hour for the hours the movers work, plus the final bill is based on the distance and any other additional services you may require.
How should I pay for moving and what are the payment methods for moving?
Tariff provisions require that all moving charges be paid before your shipment is unloaded at the destination. Payments can be made using cash or money order. Other payment options, such as a credit card, can be arranged with your professional moving service provider. Discuss these options with the relocation specialist and/or the customer service representative assigned to your shipment. Usually there is an initial charge (moving deposit) when you book your move and then when your goods are delivered, and after movers start unloading you have to pay the rest. Stay away from companies that require big deposits in advance.
Can I pack anything in the drawers of my dresser or desk?
It is generally fine to leave your clothing in your dresser drawers during the move.
Be sure to remove anything from the drawers than may roll around or shift during transport, as this can cause damage. If the dresser is particularly large (a triple dresser or part of a large armoire), it is best to at least partially empty it.
Will the driver load all the boxes that I packed?
Yes, as long as the driver deems them safe for transport.
How do I prepare my home and myself for move day?
Your mover may ask you to choose several consecutive days during which your goods may be loaded. The number of days in what is referred to as a “load spread” depends upon the size of your shipment and the time of the year when your shipment is loaded. Try and remain flexible during the busy moving season by allowing for three to five extra days on your load spread in order to have a better chance of securing a truck and driver to load your shipment.
The customer service representative and/or driver will contact you at least 24 hours prior to load day to let you know the time of arrival.
Make sure your home is ready for the crew. Move anything off the porch and walkways that may obstruct movement of your goods out of the home. Take doors off the hinges if you know certain items will not fit through. Remove all small throw rugs from traffic areas that could cause the driver or crew to trip or slip.
Offering water or other refreshments on hand to the driver and movers, especially on a hot summer day, is a wonderful gesture and, although our movers come prepared, they will be grateful for your thoughtfulness.
Our movers will prepare the home with runners, door jamb protectors, and railing protectors if applicable.
Can I pack and move my plants?
Most moving companies will not take your plants. The stress and heat of being inside the moving trailer usually causes them to die. Many states do not allow the entry of plants while other states will admit plants under certain conditions. There are some states that have no regulations at all. Be sure to understand your state’s regulations prior to moving the plants in your own vehicle.
What should I do with my jewelry and other valuable items?
Items of special value such as jewelry, money, antiques, and stamp collections can be included in your shipment, provided that you notify your local moving representative of these items before packing and moving day. It is strongly recommended that you carry irreplaceable and expensive articles with you, or make alternate arrangements for their transport.
Each mover has a slightly different procedure to follow as it relates to high-value items. Ask your relocation specialist to provide you with an explanation of their company’s process. This is a confusing (but important) task, so be sure that you clearly understand the rules prior to load day.
How will you protect my upholstered furniture?
We use a blankets and special material called stretch-wrap. It is a heavy, clear-plastic wrap that protects your furniture from being soiled.
What type of packing/unpacking services do you offer?
At the time of your move, you can choose to pack as much or as little as you want. We can pack the entire shipment, pack only a portion of your belongings or you can pack everything yourself. Prolific Relocation is here to personalize your move process and make this transition as smooth as possible.

Will my furnishings stay clean after moving?
Prolific Relocation trucks provide a clean, smooth move. We protect your upholstered furniture with protective wrap before it is covered with furniture pads.
Can I move my pet(s)?
Pets cannot be carried in the moving truck. Dogs, cats, canaries and parakeets can usually be transported in the family car.
Are there any items that you can not move?
Prolific Relocation , as well as all Licensed Movers, will not move hazardous or combustible items such as propane tanks, firearms, paint, and aerosols, as the temperature in the truck could cause these items to explode or ignite.
How will the movers know what items to take and what to leave behind?
When the movers first arrive, they will do a walk through of your current home, confirming which items are going and which are not.
What if I haven’t finished packing by my scheduled moving day?
If your moving day is rapidly approaching and it becomes clear that you will not be fully packed, it is critical that you inform your move coordinator as soon as possible. He/she can work with you to make the best possible “Plan B” for packing. This may mean having the movers finish your packing or, if you have the flexibility and we have the availability, pushing back your moving day in order to allow more time to pack. If you have only a small quantity of items left to pack, your movers can often complete this on moving day; however, it is important to understand that this will add time to the job.
Can the movers arrange the furniture to my liking in my new home?
Absolutely. When we deliver your items to your new home the movers will work closely with you to make sure all furniture and boxes arrive in the correct rooms, and we are happy to arrange and rearrange the furniture exactly as you would like it.
Can I keep moving expenses down by having a family member or friend help on moving day?
On moving day, you should let the professional movers handle the job entirely – they are highly trained and the best suited to carry the weight and negotiate the loading of the truck. Generally speaking, having non-professionals work alongside the movers slows things down and costs you more in the long run.
Can I ride in the cab of the moving truck with the movers?
Unfortunately, professional moving companies can not transport customers in the moving truck for liability reasons.
Do the movers take time off for lunch? Do I need to provide lunch for them?
Moving is a physically taxing job and the Movers need time to eat during the day. On a local move, any time that the movers spend eating lunch will be deducted from your hourly bill. As for providing lunch, it is not required, as the movers often bring lunch or will find somewhere to eat along the way.
Can the movers dispose of trash on moving day?
No. We are not equipped to dispose of trash. However, if you wish to have something transported to a waste disposal location, we are able to transport it at the hourly rate plus any fee imposed by the disposal facility.
Can my movers clean my home on moving day?
While professional moving companies may vary, at Prolific Relocation Company, we clean up any clutter we make during the moving process, but we do not do general house cleaning.
Is it possible to move during inclement weather?
Yes. Our professional movers and moving trucks are prepared to move during rain, sleet, or snow. They come equipped with supplies to keep your belongings safe from the elements.
